Judy Carter
I have been hooking since 1993 when I took a beginner class with Pat Moyer. Pat inspired me to see colors and details in everything around me. She also encouraged me to continue to grow and try anything I wanted to try. I will forever be grateful to Pat who was and is my teacher, mentor, and friend. I've taken classes from 40+ teachers and learned something from every one of them. My hope and goal is to create beautiful art and teach in a way that encourages and inspires others to stretch, grow, and step outside their comfort zone.
Rug Hooking allows me to express myself creatively. When looking at my photos you will see a variety of styles and techniques. You will also see I've developed a special interest in hooking animals. I love the challenge of hooking what I see in visual aids and seeing animals come to life at the end of my hook.
My projects, Eye See You and Eye See You II, have been a dream come true for me. I could see Eye See You in my mind, and I spent two years taking photos and gathering visual aids for a rug that would highlight my favorite part of animals....the eyes....and serve as a visual aid for classes. By teaming with artist, Leonard Feenan, I obtained the pattern of my dreams and with Lenny's vision, lined up and coordinated 37 Rug Hooking Teachers to hook each of the enlarged blocks to create Eye See You II. Eye See You and Eye See You II have been the highlight of my creative journey and I believe I learned to hook so many years ago so that I would be able and ready to hook Eye See You.
I was honored to be a Featured Exhibit at the 2015 Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village. See the Sauder page under my Gallery folder for photos of my 51 rugs which were on display.
I hope you enjoy the photos you see here. Check back often. I will continue to update information and add photos of my current projects and classes. I welcome feedback and questions about classes, presentations, and commissions.
